I think about art a lot. Specifically, how others perceive our work, how that affects us as artists and what constitutes “good” art.
Sometimes we forget that the actual making is the thing and the result is just the result.
I believe the experience between object and viewer creates art. The artist creates out of thought, feeling, observation, opinion, imagination and craft. The result is the physical manifestation of all of this.
The beholder brings her own thoughts and feelings to the experience. And in the space between the object the artist created and the beholder’s gaze an interaction takes place.
The two – artist and beholder – with all their emotional and physical histories collide and co-create deep, personal meaning in that space.
Art is not good or bad, because it’s personal and visceral. Everyone participates in its creation, because this is a dialogue between artist and piece, piece and beholder. It’s intimate, and that cannot be judged good or bad.
