Put it on the calendar: March 13, 2020
The December I was 12 years old, my mother and I set up a booth at a small community holiday craft fair. We brought our own tables so that we could create a U-shape “shop” and draped the tables in white fabric. We carefully set up our handmade wares – my mother’s ornaments made of glass and filled with her own pine potpourri, and my embroidered sachets. My mother had made us each a canvas money apron and taught me how to count back change. (I still have that apron.)
I felt so grown up, so independent. And I felt so close to my mum. Creativity and crafting were something we shared. The experience planted the seeds of a secret goal that one day my mum and I would own a little shop together.
Well on March 13, 2020 we will open the online version of the sweet little shop I always imagined.
That’s right, we’re taking action to live the dream!
Tiny Owl Creates is an online shop filled with my mother’s fiber sculptures, my drawings and paintings, and other goods centered by the theme of nature and creating the feeling of hygge – or as my people call it, gezelligheid. The whole idea is to inspire warmth, happiness and coziness in day-to-day life.
We are beyond excited! And I can’t wait to share bits from behind-the-scenes over the next two months as we prepare for the opening. Every week leading up to the opening, I’ll post stories and pictures of our progress.
We’re looking forward to sharing it all with you! I hope you’ll sign up to get our monthly newsletter delivered right to your inbox so you don’t miss a thing (form below). You can also track our progress on Instagram (the feed is also below).
Until next week then. xo
