In honor of Women’s History Month – and inspired by the wonderful collection and exhibits at the National Museum for Women in the Arts – I thought it would be fun to have a weekly creative prompt!
Every Thursday throughout March I will release a prompt on social media that we can use to inspire our work. Post it on the social media channels of your choice using the tag #tinyowlwhmart so that we can see and support each other’s work!
Please visit the National Museum for Women in the Arts website to see all the special exhibits and events they have for this month.

This week’s creative prompt is Tiny Drawings inspired by the NMWA’s exhibit of Ambreen Butt. Everyday for the next week draw at least two 3-inch circle drawings about an aspect of your day. Can be representational, abstract, mixed media, single media – whatever you’d like, but finished piece size must be 3-inch circle. Post your work and tag it #tinyowlwhmart so I can see it!

For this week’s creative prompt choose an artist from @womeninthearts collection and create a piece in that style. Use whatever medium you’d like and try to recreate the essence of your chosen artist’s style. The objective here is not to replace your style, merely how your aesthetic plays with another. You never know what magic may result! Post your work and tag it #tinyowlwhmart so I can see it!

Tomorrow the ambitious U.S. exhibition of Ursula von Rydingsvard’s influential recent work, The Contour of Feeling, featuring 30 sculptures, a wall installation, and ten works on paper opens at the National Museum for Women in the Arts. The exhibit is organized by the Fabric Workshop and Museum in Philadelphia and marks the first solo exhibition in Washington, D.C. for von Rydingsvard.
For this week’s prompt, let’s each create an intuitive piece in the medium of our choice. Let the process guide you. The outcome will be what it is, so follow your inner guide and the flow of your process! Post your work and tag it #tinyowlwhmart so I can see it!

It’s the last week of #womenshistorymonth so I thought we’d stretch ourselves. For this week’s prompt, it’s time to move beyond your chosen medium. Using subject matter that is familiar to you, create a piece using material outside of your comfort zone. Take a lesson from last week’s project and sink into the process – your intuition is powerful, let it guide you. Post your work and tag it #tinyowlwhmart so I can see it!
